Think tank: Institute for Fiscal Studies

This event hosted by UK think tank the Institute for Fiscal Studies presents new findings on how prepared private sector employees and self-employed workers are for retirement.

There are widespread concerns about how well prepared the current generation of working-age people are for retirement. Two decades on from the Pensions Commission, which recommended the introduction of automatic enrolment, the Pensions Review will provide new evidence on which groups are still facing the most significant challenges.

At this in-person only event in Westminster, IFS researchers will present new findings on how prepared private sector employees and self-employed workers are for retirement and to what extent higher saving for retirement needs to be balanced with other financial goals in working-life, as well as new policy suggestions to help address these challenges.

The new reports are being published as part of the Pensions Review – led by the Institute for Fiscal Studies and in partnership with the abrdn Financial Fairness Trust – which is a large multi-year project that assesses the consequences of current pension policy, the economic environment, and individual behaviour on future living standards in retirement.

Following the presentations from IFS researchers, there will be a panel discussion featuring expert opinions in this debate, and a Q&A with the audience.
