Think tank: Green Alliance

This event hosted by UK think tank Green Alliance will discuss how government and industry can revitalise the rail system at a pivotal moment in UK transport policy.

Rail travel has the potential to transform regional growth, create new economic and leisure opportunities, and significantly cut carbon emissions by encouraging a shift away from car use. Yet, many communities remain dependent on cars due to an underperforming and expensive rail network, as highlighted in our latest report, Next stop, better rail.

Drawing on unique analysis of Trainline ticket data by Cardiff University, the report explores patterns of rail use across the UK and reveals stark regional inequalities. It outlines practical steps to boost rail travel, including more reliable and frequent services, better public transport integration, and measures to improve affordability.

This webinar will discuss how government and industry can revitalise the rail system at a pivotal moment in UK transport policy, with Great British Rail reform, devolution deals, and the new Integrated Transport Strategy on the horizon.

The panel discussion will highlight key findings and recommendations from the report, followed by an audience Q&A.
