Revolutionising Britain: The legacy of Sir Keith Joseph

26 February 2025, 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Location: Centre for Policy Studies, 57 Tufton Street, London SW1P 3QL

Think tank: Centre for Policy Studies

This event hosted by UK think tank the Centre for Policy Studies will explore the legacy of Sir Keith Joseph.

The Centre for Policy Studies is delighted to welcome Chairman of the Conservative History Group Lord Stephen Parkinson and historian Vernon Bogdanor for a discussion exploring the legacy of Sir Keith Joseph.

Once seemingly destined to lead the Conservative Party, Keith Joseph’s role as a key architect for what became known as Thatcherism makes him one of the most important politicians never to occupy No 10. The man who served under four Prime Ministers left a legacy that still echoes today, not least owing to his part in founding the Centre for Policy Studies. Joseph’s ideas continue to influence the nation’s economic policies across parties — creating, at least until recent years, broad consensus on economic priorities and the merits of the market economy.

This discussion, hosted alongside the Conservative History Group and chaired by CPS Research Director Karl Williams, will delve into the lasting impact of his transformative vision and examine how Keith Joseph’s ideas shaped the Britain we know today. Copies of Vernon Bogdanor’s latest book “Making the Weather: Six Politicians who Changed Modern Britain”, of which Keith Joseph is one, will be available to purchase (cash only). .
