Closing the attainment gap to level up

This event hosted by UK think tank the Education Policy Institute, will discuss the role of education investment in levelling up the country.

On Thursday 19th May, the Education Policy Institute (EPI) is partnering with Teach First to hold a high-level event to discuss the role of education investment in levelling up the country.

School closures and the move to remote learning have raised urgent questions about the disadvantage gap that exists in education for children and young people and wider inequalities within society. As we consider how to build a fairer society after the pandemic, education investment will be critical to creating opportunities and ensuring that we have a highly skilled workforce needed to fulfil the government’s levelling up ambitions.

Following the publication of the Levelling Up White Paper and the announcement of 55 Education Investment Areas, this event will explore how tackling the attainment gap has significant implications for the levelling up agenda. The discussion will also consider how education spending targeting the most disadvantaged students can be an investment in the economy and discuss which policies the government should focus on to reduce inequalities in education.

We are delighted that the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, the Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, will be delivering the event’s keynote speech. This will be followed by a panel including Leora Cruddas, Confederation of School Trusts, Henri Murison, Northern Powerhouse Partnership and Will Tanner, Onward. EPI Chief Executive, Natalie Perera, will be chairing the discussion.

This event is invite-only. Please get in touch at [email protected] to request a ticket with your name, job title and organisation.
