Election 2019: The next five years of spending on public services

This event from the UK think tank Institute for Government will launch the fourth edition of Performance Tracker, a data-driven analysis of the performance of key public services.

Boris Johnson has halted cuts to departmental budgets and allocated more money for schools, police officers and the criminal justice system. But can public services maintain the efficiencies they’ve made since 2010 and will this cash injection be enough to reverse the decline in service performance?

The Performance Tracker is a data-driven analysis of the performance of key public services, including: prisons, hospitals, schools, police and adult social care. For the first time, Performance Tracker will also assess how demand for public services will change over the next five years and whether government spending plans are realistic.

Graham Atkins, Senior Researcher at the Institute for Government, will present the key findings.

To discuss, our panel includes:

Cllr Sue Murphy CBE, Deputy Leader of Manchester City Council

Professor Andrew Hardy, CEO of University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust and Vice President of CIPFA

Other speakers to be confirmed.

Chair: Nick Davies, Programme Director at the Institute for Government.
