In pursuit of competence: a life as a Westminster nomad

This event, hosted by UK think tank the SMF, will feature Lord Norman Warner in conversation with SMF’s Director James Kirkup.

How do we make public services work better to meet the needs of a 21st Century population? How can the machinery of government be made fit for the information economy?

Few people have as much experience of tackling this reform agenda as Norman Warner. A former government auditor who became a health minister under Tony Blair driving NHS reforms on patient choice, he was then a member of the Coalition Government’s Dilnot commission on funding Social Care. Now he’s a crossbench peer scrutinising the Health and Care Bill as it goes through Parliament.

Join us on 27 April to hear from Lord Warner and SMF Director James Kirkup as they discuss a range of issues from how to fund the NHS of the future, to why House of Lords reform is long overdue.

Joining instructions will be shared with registered attendees and there will be an opportunity to ask questions during the event.
