International Women’s Day 2021: northern women who #ChooseToChallenge

This event, hosted by UK think tank IPPR will focus on working together to #ChooseToChallenge the fact that many women’s voices in the north go unheard.

IPPR North is delighted to invite you to a special virtual event on International Women’s Day, to celebrate how Northern Women #ChooseToChallenge gender inequality. This event wiill be held in partnership with Lloyds Banking Group.

The focus of this event will be on how we can work together to #ChooseToChallenge the fact that many women’s voices in the north, go unheard. There are many different ways in which women’s voice are unheard; in board rooms, the media, politics, communities and public services.

As we attempt to recover from the economic and social impacts of Covid-19, we need new perspectives, creativity and insights on how we can move forward. Women need new opportunities to challenge and be heard if we are to change our society for the better, post pandemic.

Some of the key discussion points at this event will be:

How can we challenge successfully to help ensure that more women can be heard in the North of England?

What role could devolution play in helping to amplify women’s voices for example, through greater opportunities for deliberative democracy?

What prevents women from having opportunities to challenge the status quo in the North of England and how can these barriers be overcome?

What can we and our organisations do to help support and amplify women’s voices in the future?

What impact has Covid-19 had on women’s voices and what can we learn for the future?
