This report by UK think tanks looks at the EU Settlement Scheme
This scheme enables EU citizens in the UK to apply for the status they will need after Britain leaves the EU and went live in March 2019. The sheer scale of the task – registering 3.5 million people – means even a low failure rate could leave thousands of people without status.
‘Getting it right from the start’ sets out the potential barriers to people successfully securing status and offers potential remedies in each case. It urges the Home Office to make key commitments to get things right from the start, including ongoing investment in the system, including: systematic and sustained communications; transparency and accountability; rapid redress when mistakes are made; and a ‘cost-price’ British Citizenship offer for EU citizens in the UK.Read Full Report
