Managing Director – ISD

ISD is seeking a Managing Director to join its Leadership team to oversee and grow ISD’s established portfolio of 25-30 global programmes.

The Managing Director will provide day-to-day leadership to a team of 6 senior staff, managing programmes across various geographies – Europe and Five Eyes countries (Canada, USA, New Zealand, UK and Australia), as well as working closely with the Executive director for AMEA (Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, and the Western Balkans). The post holder will ultimately be responsible for quality assurance of all project outputs including publications.

The ideal candidate will be a strong team leader, strategic thinker, writer and editor. They will have significant prior experience leading work in ISD’s focus areas, or areas relevant to ISD’s work, able to quickly grasp the significance and impact of ISD’s programming and and understand how to develop these. The post holder will also have substantial experience in financial, project, and people management.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership position in a similar organisation
  • Experience leading an international team of senior staff
  • Demonstrable experience developing and delivering against strategic business plans along with the ability to make informed strategy decisions and take advantage of opportunities
  • A portfolio of published work and a representational track-record in the fields of conflict, extremism, and polarisation

The post holder will have commercial acumen, an entrepreneurial approach to fundraising and development and exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills.  Professional language skills (particularly French or German) and experience of public speaking are desirable.
