IPPR (the Institute for Public Policy Research) is the UK’s leading progressive thinktank. Our research and ideas have shaped policymaking for over three decades. We aim to build a fairer and more prosperous society in the UK by delivering economic, social and democratic justice. To do this, we work with and convene policymakers, civil society, business organisations and all political parties in all parts of the United Kingdom, including through our dedicated IPPR North and IPPR Scotland teams in Manchester and Edinburgh.

We are looking to recruit an External Affairs and Events Officer within IPPR’s Communications team, which works to ensure that IPPR has impact and influence across a wide range of audiences. Based in our London office, you will work closely with colleagues to plan, develop, coordinate and deliver IPPR communications across a range of channels. You will have a particular focus on events, corporate partnerships and other programmes of stakeholder engagement.

You will carry out a range of tasks aimed at building IPPR’s profile, achieving impact and influence for our work.

The primary focus of the role will be to assist the Head of External Affairs and Events with planning and implementing IPPR’s events programmes; this will include all the logistical and administrative aspects of events management; liaising with sponsors and other stakeholders; assisting with marketing activity, design and branding of events; networking; and representational work.

The role also includes supporting the Head of External Affairs and Events in developing and delivering IPPR’s corporate partnership programme and other activities designed to engage key audiences and networks. This will include a variety of modes to reach different audiences such as events, meetings, social media and other digital channels. It will also include supporting colleagues to manage important relationships and working more broadly on wider communications team activities.

If you are enthusiastic about engaging different audiences, have a track record of successfully delivering complex and high-profile events, excellent administrative and IT skills, and a dynamic approach to problem solving this is the ideal job for you. You will combine excellent communication skills with an interest and knowledge in public affairs and public policy, to enable you to respond pro-actively to changes in work priorities.

IPPR is committed to equality of opportunity and welcomes applications from all sections of the community and from applicants with a range of professional and lived experiences. As an organisation engaging in critical debate about a wide range of progressive policy issues, we value the creativity and range of perspectives that a diverse team can provide.

As part of our commitment to flexible working we will consider a range of options for the successful applicant to fill the post. All options can be discussed at interview stage.
