Lost learning, lost earnings


This report from UK think tank the Sutton Trust looks at the potential long-term impacts of spring’s school closures.

Much has been written on the impact of school closures on pupils, and how different groups have been affected differently. However, this brief looks at the potential long-term impacts of spring’s school closures and the potential effects on earnings later in life and prospects for social mobility.

This research finds lost learning is likely to lead to lost income over a twenty year time period, with those from low income backgrounds hit hardest, with significant knock-on consequences for social mobility.
