This report from UK think tank Reform looks at whether healthcare data help rebalance the UK’s economy.

Estimates suggest that £9.6 billion per annum could be unlocked from patient data, playing a pivotal role in the discovery of new treatments, better diagnosis and improved efficiency for the healthcare system. But healthcare data could also be harnessed to boost the UK’s economy. This Reform Perspectives argues how the forthcoming Budget represents a critical opportunity to unleash the potential of the UK’s unique healthcare data asset, whilst increasing the health and wealth of the whole nation. It argues that for Government to use investment in R&D and healthcare data to ‘level-up’ ‘left-behind’ economies, they need to consider 4 key points: physical infrastructure, workforce skills, capital investment and safeguards for individual rights and regulation.
