Small Modular Reactors

This report from the UK think tank Civitas examines Small Modular Reactors and why they matter.

The decarbonisation challenge facing the UK is immense. Part of the answer to this may lie in nuclear energy and, as this paper argues, the development of new Small Modular Reactors (SMRs). SMRs are cheaper, safer and quicker to build than new nuclear power stations.

British universities are undertaking world-class research in this area but development has been slower than elsewhere. This paper makes the case for the government to step up its support for this work to help provide carbon-free energy to heat homes, fuel transport and power industrial processes.
