Mis-/disinformation and radicalisation: Insights for public sector response

This event hosted by UK think tank RUSI explores the role and impact of mis- and disinformation in extremism and radicalisation trends.

Mis- and disinformation campaigns are no longer a fringe concern for security specialists. Hostile actors, state and non-state alike, have become increasingly sophisticated in exploiting the information environment to radicalise communities, exacerbate tensions, and potentially incite violence. As these tactics evolve and proliferate across digital platforms, their consequences are felt far beyond the counterterrorism and extremism space. They are increasingly extending into the communities where disinformation takes root, complicating public sector engagement and communications.

The webinar is designed for professionals working in communications, community safety, and strategic leadership roles across policing and public sector efforts, with a focus on counter-terrorism functions like Prevent, Protect and Prepare. Speakers will address the mechanisms by which disinformation spreads and gains traction, the specific challenges facing public sector institutions and professionals, and identify opportunities to strengthen institutional resilience and public trust.

The session will include a moderated Q&A with the audience.
