This summer has seen unprecedented heat, along with record drought and shocking wildfires, each exposing a critical gap in this country’s resilience. Communities everywhere have felt the effects, from severe health impacts and soaring food prices to transport disruption, school closures and dangerously overheated workplaces and homes. Join Green Alliance on Tuesday 8th September, 12:00-13:00, for a webinar exploring the political case for tackling extreme heat.

The impact on people’s lives has already been substantial, with more than 2,700 premature heat-related deaths recorded in England and Wales during May and June. June’s heatwave is estimated to have had a direct economic cost of at least £2.36 billion. The need to strengthen climate resilience has never been clearer. Adaptation must now be recognised as a systemic challenge, requiring leadership and collaboration across government, business and communities.
