Pleasing people and satisfying markets
29 October 2026, 9:00 am – 10:15 am
Location: Online / Resolution Foundation, 2 Queen Anne's Gate, London SW1H 9AA
Think tank: Resolution Foundation
This event hosted by UK think tank the Resolution Foundation discusses what the Budget has revealed about the state of Britain and Burnham’s government.
Budget 2026 need to deliver on three fronts – easing cost of living pressures, taking forward the Prime Minister’s economic agenda and reassuring the markets about the state of the public finances. Delivering any of these objectives is hard enough. Delivering all three, against a backdrop of turmoil in the global economy, is devilishly difficult. How can Budget 2026 measure up to them?
How the economic outlook changed over the past six months? To what extend have global developments driven the Chancellor’s domestic policy choices? Have families been given more breathing room as energy costs continue to mount? Will this Budget shift the dial on devolution, GDP and living standards? And are the bond markets satisfied?
The Resolution Foundation is hosting an in-person and interactive webinar to debate and answer these questions. Following a presentation of the key highlights of our overnight analysis of Budget 2026, we will hear from leading experts on what it has revealed about the state of the British economy and the priorities of Andy Burnham’s Government.
The event will be open for people to physically attend, alongside being broadcast via YouTube and the Resolution Foundation website. Viewers will be able to submit questions to the panel before and during the event via Slido.
