What next for Palestinian democracy and politics?
17 November 2026, 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Location: Online
Think tank: Chatham House
This event hosted by UK think tank Chatham House assesses the future of Palestinian democracy, governance and political representation.
The postponement of Palestine’s first legislative elections in two decades has revived debate on what avenues exist for political renewal under occupation. Critical questions of political representation, institutional legitimacy and reform and public participation will need to be addressed to avoid greater erosion of trust in the democratic process and further delays.
This webinar discusses:
– Why were the Palestinian elections postponed?
– How can political representation and public participation be strengthened over the coming year?
– What reforms are needed to improve the legitimacy and effectiveness of Palestinian institutions?
– What impact might the Israeli election have on prospects for Palestinian democracy?
– What can recent opinion polls tell us about Palestinian attitudes towards representation and democratic governance?
