Is the Treasury serious about fiscal devolution?
30 April 2026, 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm
Location: Online
Think tank: Centre for Cities
This event hosted by UK think tank the Centre for Cities explores what we know about the Chancellor’s plans for fiscal devolution so far.
At last month’s Mais lecture, the Chancellor recognised that the UK’s unusually centralised fiscal system is a barrier to growth. She announced that the Treasury will be working with Mayors and businesses to develop a roadmap for future fiscal devolution ahead of Autumn budget.
As the most fiscally centralised country in the G7, fiscal devolution will be a significant change for the UK. At this event, Centre for Cities will be joined by expert panellists to consider whether the Treasury is serious about delivering fiscal devolution, what it could mean in practice, and how it can help solve some of the issues facing UK cities and the national economy.
