Job details

The Communications Associate will play a key, hands-on role at the heart of CLTR’s communications function. Around 70% of your time will be focused on the strategic communications function — supporting audience engagement, digital content and media monitoring — with the remaining 30% contributing to CLTR’s wider organisational communications to engage key policy and fundraising stakeholders.

Main responsibilities

  • Contributing to the management of CLTR’s communications and advocacy calendar, ensuring activity is well-planned, coordinated and on-brand.
  • Implementing and managing CLTR’s social media strategy across platforms — tracking engagement, optimising content performance and scaling digital reach.
  • Producing high-quality written and multimedia content, including social media posts, graphics, short-form video and written copy.
  • Leading CLTR’s bespoke media monitoring service — producing weekly reports and analysis capturing relevant news and social media activity, with recommendations for engagement and tracking the impact of key voices. Over time, this service will expand to support the broader UK AI safety and biosecurity ecosystem.
  • Monitoring the media landscape for key moments, launches and emerging trends, sharing insights to inform team decisions.
  • Serving as champion and guardian of CLTR’s refreshed brand and brand guidelines across all channels, ensuring guidelines are adhered to and updating and leading training and support on brand toolkits.
  • Liaising with teams and partners to share learnings and help policy unit teams engage their target audiences more effectively.
  • Analysing and reporting on audience, channel and impact metrics across CLTR’s communications — including executive communications, social media and stakeholder engagement.
  • Contributing to a vibrant CLTR team culture, providing and welcoming clear and constructive feedback.

Personal specification

  • Experience in a communications agency, in-house communications team, or a communications-related role.
  • Strong digital literacy and fluency across social media platforms, content management systems and AI tools, with the ability to learn new software rapidly.
  • Excellent written, verbal and visual communication skills — including a talent for translating complex technical and policy material into clear, compelling content for a range of audiences.
  • Experience using AI tools to support work efficiencies — including building custom prompts and working with tools such as Claude, Gemini, Midjourney and WordPress.
  • Outstanding attention to detail and strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
  • A proactive, ownership-driven approach — you follow through on commitments, adapt quickly, and don’t wait to be told what needs doing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to to communicate clearly, kindly and directly — giving and receiving feedback openly, and building strong relationships across teams and with external partners.
  • A genuine commitment to CLTR’s mission, and to reducing extreme AI and biological risks.

About the organisation

The Centre for Long-Term Resilience (CLTR) is a UK-based, non-profit and independent think tank with a mission to transform global resilience to extreme risks. We achieve this by working with governments and institutions, offering targeted, evidence-based advice designed to enhance understanding, decision-making and governance. At CLTR, we focus on three prioritised policy areas that, when addressed effectively, can substantially reduce both present and prospective catastrophic threats: i) biosecurity, ii) artificial intelligence, and iii) improving how governments manage extreme risks.

How to Apply

Joining our team at CLTR involves a thorough but straightforward and transparent application process. Here is what a successful candidate is likely to experience and do:

Initial: Submit your application before Friday 15 May.

Stage 1: Complete a timed remote work assessment.

Stage 2: Interview, after which we’ll conduct a reference check.

Email invitations and any process updates will be sent to all candidates who progress at each stage. If we decide to make adjustments during the hiring process we will keep candidates well-informed via email. Our goal is to complete all stages and make an offer by Monday 8 June 2026.

If you’re on the fence about applying or have further questions about the role or process, we strongly recommend getting in touch with us at hiring@longtermresilience.org.
