This report from UK think tank Green Alliance explores cutting the UK’s transport climate impact.

Transport, including road, aviation and shipping, is responsible for around a third of the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions. While big steps have been taken — like the planned 2030 phase out of new petrol and diesel cars — policy is still falling short of what’s needed to meet the UK’s climate commitments.

We explore how more targeted action across all transport modes could bridge this gap, estimated to be 97MtCO2e by 2032. Our solutions combined could more than meet the challenge, adding up to 105MtCO2e reductions over the same period.

Beyond emissions reductions, the policies we propose – including road transport, aviation, rail, freight and public transport – offer transformative benefits for people and the economy, like less congestion, healthier cities and better connections.
