This report from UK think tank the Resolution Foundation assesses the options for supporting families with the rise in the cost of energy.
Conflict in the Middle East has driven oil prices from around $70 to $100 per barrel, with wholesale gas prices also rising by over 60 per cent.
The duration and severity of the ongoing war are uncertain, but the longer it continues the more likely it is that both petrol prices and energy bills rise, adding to pressures facing families.
Given the Government has said the high cost of living is its number one priority, and has acted to help those reliant on heating oil, there is growing pressure to provide widespread support. So what should be done?
