Leveraging the G7 financial system remains an important tool for preventing sanctions circumvention, but it is important for policymakers to understand – and address – the technical and practical implementation obstacles faced by the financial sector.
As Russia’s war in Ukraine enters its third year, addressing these issues will help empower the FI community to play the ‘frontline’ role they expect, and will support the policy objective of restricting the resourcing of the Russian military.
