This report from UK think tank the Centre for Policy Studies argues that the rate of legal migration in recent years has not delivered the expected positive economic outcomes.
In 2022, the rate of legal immigration was 25 times the level of illegal migration – an inflow of 1.2 million people.
While broad consensus exists around the pitfalls of illegal migration, this report, written by Robert Jenrick MP, Neil O’Brien MP and Karl Williams, argues that the rate of legal migration in recent years has not delivered the expected positive economic outcomes, and has instead placed heavy burdens on the UK’s rental markets, public services and infrastructure.
The report contains over thirty recommendations, the majority of which can be implemented during this Parliament, in order to reduce oval levels of immigration and make the immigration system more selective, so that migration brings more benefits to existing UK residents.
