Understanding the UK’s transition to warfighting readiness

This report from UK think tank Civitas resets the narrative by setting out the imperative for moving to warfighting readiness.

This report argues that the West now faces a truly existential threat from a loose but strengthening alliance of autocracies which the war in Ukraine has exposed. This is an urgent and drastic threat which requires an immediate, far-reaching and radical response.

This report resets the narrative by carefully setting out the imperative for moving to warfighting readiness in a rapidly changing geopolitical and geostrategic environment, while asking what the UK’s warfighting structure should look like and what we might learn from past experiences.

Fundamentally, to preserve the democracy which we cherish and which is at the basis of our Western way of life, we now need to modernise and upgrade the practices and procedures of governance which sustain that democracy.
