Bright Blue

Bright Blue is an independent liberal conservative think tank with a big mission: to defend and improve liberal society. We play a fundamental role in vetting, explaining, creating and changing public policy.

Since we became a professional think tank in 2014, we have grown significantly in size, profile, influence and reputation. We are now one of the most influential research and advocacy organisations in the UK. We have published over 100 reports, employed around 60 people and hosted nearly 800 events. We have been shortlisted as the Energy and Environment Think Tank of the Year and Social Policy Think Tank of the Year in the prestigious Prospect Magazine awards four years in a row. Generally, our work focuses on social, educational, environment and energy and employment and fiscal policy.

Over 60 original Bright Blue policies have been adopted by successive Governments over the past nine years. Broadly, under David Cameron, Bright Blue’s work helped improve education policy, especially on childcare and universities. Under Theresa May, it secured significant changes to environmental policy, including being the first centre-right organisation to call for the UK to adopt a legal net zero emissions target. Under Boris Johnson, Bright Blue helped change the post-Brexit immigration system for workers and students. Under Rishi Sunak, many of Bright Blue’s ideas on reforming childcare support were adopted.

Bright Blue has sought not only to produce rigorous and respected research and to be an ideas engine for successive Governments, but to build a community of like-minded people through our membership of around 1,000 members and donors. We have made liberal conservatism, defined by our ten key principles, a distinctive and recognisable political philosophy with lasting impact on public attitudes and policy.
