The macro scorecard of Brexit

19 May 2026, 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm

Location: NIESR, 2 Dean Trench Street, Smith Square, London SW1P 3HE

Think tank: National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR)

This event hosted by UK think tanks NIESR and UKICE discusses the aggregate economic effects of Brexit and where the uncertainties lie.

To mark the tenth anniversary of the Brexit referendum,  NIESR and the UK in a Changing Europe (UKICE) are organising a short series of public events to take stock of what the evidence now tells us about Brexit’s economic effects, and to consider the implications for the next phase of UK-EU economic relations.

This first event will establish what the best evidence says about the aggregate economic effects of Brexit and where the uncertainties lie.  What do we know about the impact on goods trade, services trade, and trade costs?  What has happened to business investment and FDI—levels, composition, and firm behaviour? What can credibly be attributed to Brexit in productivity/output performance, versus other shocks and measurement issues?
