This event hosted by UK think tank the Social Market Foundation launches their new report on ‘Citizens Advance’.
Join us for an event with Andrew Lewin MP, launching a new report on the ‘Citizens Advance’.
The ‘Citizens Advance’ is an innovative proposal to allow under-40s with 10 years’ worth of National Insurance contributions to receive a year’s state pension (currently c£12,500) in exchange for delaying retirement by one year.
Citizens Advance would be on offer to all who meet the criteria, but its core purpose would be to enable those who can’t rely on family wealth to make investments that can help them get ahead in life. Proponents argue that the scheme would promote equality and fairness, allowing younger people from less advantaged backgrounds to pay for a house deposit, fund education or training, or start a family.
The SMF’s new report models the policy idea, assessing its opportunities and costs and how it could be delivered in practice.
